När "ettan" kom var det en bil jag ville ha eftersom det var det folkliga alt. till Porsche även om skillnaden var stor. Har ägt tre VW och den senaste hade jag 1976 :o så det kanske är dags igen.

Corrado kom som ersättare till Scirocco II så det är inte troligt när nu Scirocco III kommer. Tur att ingen bilförsäljare ser mig nu. :D

Vet inte vad Corrado betyder men när nya VW modellerna kom på 70-talet var de första uppkallade efter vindar. Passat och Scirocco. Scirocco är den ökenvind som bl. a. blåser in över Kanarieöarna vintertid och som kan ge sandstormar där. Inte så konstigt att man återgår till det gamla namnet då Passat finns kvar som namn

Personligen tyckte jag inte alls om Scirocco II och Corrado.
Scirocco I hade en stram elegans som ingen av de andra hade.

Även Maserati hade en modell som var döpt efter en vind... Khamsin.

The racing version of the new Volkswagen Scirocco is all set to show off its sporting credentials at next month’s 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring (23 -25 May) as the German carmaker completed a comprehensive endurance test at the Motorsport Arena at Oschersleben.

Volkswagen will participate in the race at the legendary Nordschleife with three Scirocco cars equipped with a 2.0-litre TFSI engine delivering over 300 hp and a direct-shift transmission with DSG technology including shifting paddles in the steering wheel.

Leading Volkswagen's line-up of drivers for the 24-hour Nürburgring race is two-time Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck and the two-time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz.

"The Scirocco has passed its first real ‘baptism of fire’ well,” says Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. "The racing version was developed and prepared by our technical staff in record time. With the endurance test, we’re perfectly within our truly tight schedule. The Scirocco is a real highlight: when watching the car on the race track for the first time, it simply looks cool."

Efterträdaren hette Corrado och tillverkades mellan 1988 och 1995. Vid det laget hade luften gått ur marknaden för små, relativt billiga coupémodeller.

Det är nog ingen tillfällighet att nykomlingen heter Scirocco och inte Corrado."

"The new Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 celebrated a super-successful track debut today (Sunday), taking the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours by storm to record a class 1-2 and an 11th place overall finish in one of the world’s toughest races.

The Scirocco of Austrian track legend Hans-Joachim Stuck and his co-drivers Jimmy Johansson, Florian Gruber and Thomas Mutsch led the way on the daunting 25 km ‘Nordschleife’ to claim top honours in the class for 2-litre turbocharged machines. It finished 11th overall, four places ahead of the sister Scirocco piloted by double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz and his Volkswagen rally team-mates Giniel de Villiers and Dieter Depping; Stuck also took his turn at the wheel of this car to achieve a unique feat in finishing in first and second place in class.

The works team’s third Scirocco, whose drivers included Volkswagen board member Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, finished the event also, taking fifth in class and 32nd overall. ‘It is a great result for the new Scirocco,’ said Dr Hackenberg. ‘The one-two in class and 11th overall in the 24-hour race underlines the sporting dynamic and reliability of the new Volkswagen coupe.’

Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director, added: ‘The racing Scirocco was developed, built and tested in only 75 days. To complete the distance on one of the world’s most demanding tracks first time out, and without serious problem, speaks volumes for the excellent performance of the entire team.’

The track version of the Scirocco, which is not due to start its production life until the autumn, is powered by a 2-litre TFSI petrol engine developing 325 PS and features a direct-shift transmission system utilising Volkswagen’s DSG technology.

A field of 219 cars took the start of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. More than 200,000 spectators watched the event trackside. "

"Updated: Volkswagen has announced that its new Scirocco coupe will go on sale in Europe this August with prices starting at €27,490 (approximately $42,576) for the base 1.4L TSI petrol variant with 120hp (90kW). The entry-level model also comes standard with 17in alloys, leather trim for the steering wheel and handbrake, sporty bucket seats, six airbags and a sports-tuned chassis.

The standard gearbox is a conventional six-speed manual but buyers can opt for either six or seven-speed dual-clutch DSG units. The initial lineup will consist of the 1.4L TSI, followed by a 160hp (118kW) TSI and 200hp (147kW) TSI. Diesel fans will be limited to a 140hp (103kW) TDI, although a new 122hp (90kW) diesel will be added early next year.

There are still no plans to launch the Scirocco in North America due to the current state of the U.S. dollar, and recent reports claim the weak dollar could even delay the launch of the upcoming Mark VI Golf (Rabbit) as well."

Volkswagen’s new Scirocco coupe was recently launched in Lisbon with a range of powertrain options but the company is already looking to expand the number of variants available to those that want to either save on fuel bills or get more power under the hood.

Volkswagen boss Martin Winterkorn confirmed the Scirocco could be released as an AWD model with a high-performance engine, likely to be a version of the turbocharged 4-cylinder mill found in the current generation Audi S3. The current range-topper in the Scirocco lineup is a 2.0L turbo with 200hp (147 kW), but the engine in the S3 develops significantly more at 265hp (195kW).

The GTI and R32 models in the Golf lineup have been successful for Volkswagen and the more sporty positioning of the Scirocco will likely help boost the sales mix for these more powerful – and profitable – models.

On the other end of the performance scale Winterkorn also said that VW could eventually release special “BlueMotion” versions of the Scirocco. These models feature aerodynamic and mechanical tweaks to help reduce C02 emissions and fuel consumption. The base Scirocco is powered by a 1.4L TSI but the BlueMotion will probably be fitted with a low power diesel powerplant. "

"More speculation that a performance ‘R’ variant of the new Volkswagen Scirocco coupe is in the works has arrived in the form a new teaser that’s purportedly the real deal. Like the current Golf-based R32 and Passat-based R36, the R-type Scirocco will be a more powerful and better equipped version of the standard coupe and will likely feature its own unique powertrain.

VW hinted at a new R-type Scirocco when it revealed the GT24 race-concept back at the Austrian Wörthersee Tour tuning show in May. The concept featured a highly-tuned 2.0L TFSI engine with 325hp (242kW) on tap and drive sent to the front wheels.

"Following yesterday’s leak of what’s purported to be an official teaser for a future performance ‘R’ variant of the new Volkswagen Scirocco comes this latest computer generated rendering, giving us a preview of the final version of the car. VW hinted at a new Scirocco R when it revealed the GT24 race-concept back at the Austrian Wörthersee Tour tuning show in May, and as expected the production version will likely draw a number of styling influences and possibly some mechanical features from the concept.

Key features lifted from the concept are the aggressively styled bumper with larger intakes and unique foglights, as well as slightly wider fenders and a lower ride height than the regular production model.

The GT24 concept was powered by a highly-tuned 2.0L TFSI engine with 325hp (242kW) on tap, and although the Scirocco R will most likely output significantly less power the potent four-cylinder engine should carry over. VW Scirocco i STCC 2009!
Volkswagen blir representerat på startlinjen i STCC nästa år i form av två stycken Scirocco som kommer att drivas med gas!

Denna icke officiella nyhet har läkt ut ett par veckor innan den kommer att presenteras. Enligt våra källor är det nuvarande Mercedesföraren Tobias Johansson som kommer att driva projektet. Han blir själv en av förarna och i den andra Sciroccon sätts en av de många juniorförare som ingår i VW-koncernens familj. Det finns flera att välja på: Andreas Simonsen, Niklas Olsson, Jimmy Johansson eller varför inte Alexander Graff som nyligen vann JTCC i en VW Golf.
Att bilen ska drivas med gas är en stor nyhet och det finns inget i reglementet som förbjuder detta. När dessutom ett av landets allra största företag i den branschen ger sig in som huvudsponsor kommer STCC knappast att sätta några käppar i hjulen. Se bara vad som hände när Jan “Flash” Nilsson övertalade Posten att gå in STCC.
VW Scirocco kommer att få dispens för att gå i STCC, den är bara tvådörrars, men inte heller det torde vara några problem. Även Volvo C30 går på dispens.
De två kortare tävlingarna som ska köras 2009, istället för en längre, gynnar också Sciroccoprojektet eftersom det annars kanske hade varit svårt att få drivmedlet att räcka.

Sciroccon på bilden ovan är den Jimmy Johansson körde under 24-timmars på Nürburgring tidigare i år.
